About Roni Kohut
Roni Kohut is a Senior Estate Specialist (Paralegal) with VEST Estate Lawyers in Edmonton. With more than 35 years of experience in the legal profession, Roni brings extensive practical knowledge, organization and a down-to-earth approach to helping clients navigate estate administration.
Roni began her legal support career in 1989 and gained experience across a broad range of practice areas before finding her professional home in wills and estates. Since 2010, she has worked exclusively in this area, with a particular focus on probate and estate administration.
Roni works directly with personal representatives throughout the administration of an estate, from the initial information-gathering stage and preparation of applications for Grants of Probate and Administration through to the many practical steps that follow. Her work includes dealing with financial institutions, land titles, estate assets and liabilities, beneficiaries and other third parties, as well as coordinating the information and documentation required for tax and accounting purposes.
Throughout her career, Roni has assisted with estates of all sizes and levels of complexity, including intestate estates, unusual family circumstances, missing or difficult-to-locate beneficiaries, bonding issues and other complications that can arise during the administration process. She works closely with VEST’s lawyers whenever a matter requires legal advice or involves issues beyond the ordinary administration of an estate.
Roni particularly enjoys working directly with clients and helping make an unfamiliar process easier to understand. She recognizes that most people have little experience administering an estate before suddenly finding themselves responsible for one — often while they are also grieving the loss of someone close to them. Her approach is practical and straightforward: explain what needs to happen, why it needs to happen and what comes next.
After more than 35 years in the legal profession, Roni still genuinely enjoys the work she does and the people she meets through it. She takes pride in helping families move an estate forward efficiently while making the process feel a little less overwhelming along the way.
Outside of the office, Roni loves spending time with her four children, her granddaughter, family and friends. She enjoys walking and hiking, listening to music, reading, travelling and exploring new places. An avid sports fan, Roni can often be found cheering on her favorite NFL and hockey teams. She also enjoys crocheting and a good classic or true crime movie when it’s time to slow things down. With her children now grown, she is looking forward to travelling more, discovering new places and making the most of her time outside the office.
