About Conan Taylor
Pioneering Excellence at Vest Estate Law
Conan Taylor serves as the founding and Managing Partner of Vest Estate Law, a boutique estate law firm delivering exceptional legal services across Alberta and British Columbia. While his legal career spans an impressive 29 years with over $500 million in resolved contested claims, Conan has intentionally shifted his focus from active practice to leadership and strategic growth. His vision for Vest Estate Law centers on creating a specialized team exclusively dedicated to wills and estates law, providing clients with skilled guidance through complex estate matters.
As Managing Partner, Conan fosters a client-centered approach, ensuring that Vest Estate Law remains accessible to all individuals seeking estate planning assistance or navigating the estate administration process. His leadership has been instrumental in establishing Vest as a premier firm for estate litigation, while maintaining the firm’s solid reputation on proactive planning and administration.
Building Teams and Expanding Reach
Conan’s passion for Vest Estate Law manifests in his dedication to team building and practice expansion. Rather than concentrating on his own legal practice, he dedicates his energy to recruiting and developing exceptional legal talent across the firm’s offices in Edmonton, Calgary, Kamloops, and Vancouver. This approach ensures that Vest Estate Law maintains consistent excellence in service delivery while expanding its geographical reach.
Under Conan’s leadership, Vest Estate Law has grown into a cohesive team of lawyers united by their shared commitment to estate law. His strategic vision has allowed the firm to maintain its boutique focus while providing comprehensive coverage across Alberta and British Columbia, ensuring that quality estate legal services are available to a broad client base.
Distinguished Career Before Vest Estate Law
Before establishing his group of law firms, Conan served for nine years as an officer with the Canadian Armed Forces. After obtaining his Pilot’s Wings in 1983, he accumulated over 4,500 hours of flight time, including three years as a NATO Exchange Officer with the Royal Air Force in the United Kingdom flying Chinook helicopters. He retired from military service in 1989 with the rank of Captain.
Conan’s academic background includes a BA (Honours) in Philosophy with First Class Honours from the University of Alberta and an LLB/JD from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. His extensive professional experience includes corporate/commercial litigation and advisory roles for businesses across numerous sectors including mining, pharmacy, construction, land development, and technology. Conan has not only represented many companies but has also served on their boards, providing strategic legal oversight for both operational matters and major transactions.
Beyond the Office
When not focused on growing Vest Estate Law and his other legal ventures, Conan indulges his passion for travel and spending time at his family farm property south of Edmonton. There, he finds balance through physical work and quiet contemplation amidst Alberta’s spectacular natural landscapes. This connection to the land reflects the same values of legacy and stewardship that inform his approach to estate law.
Conan’s leadership at Vest Estate Law continues to be defined by his commitment to building a firm that specializes exclusively in estate matters. Under his guidance, the firm provides clients with the peace of mind that comes from working with a team whose singular focus is navigating the complexities of estate planning, administration, and when necessary, litigation.
